About the position

The position serves as an Advanced Technical Support Specialist (ATSS) within the Technical Support Operations Group, focusing on the operation of the National Airspace System (NAS). The role involves a variety of complex functions including integration, restoration, testing, and evaluation of advanced services and hardware/software systems. The ATSS applies technical expertise to ensure the integrity of systems and services, providing high-level support and resolving unique technical problems independently. The position requires collaboration with various stakeholders and involves physical demands such as climbing and lifting, with a flexible work schedule that may include nights and weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Integrate, restore, test, and evaluate new advanced services or service components for the NAS.
  • Provide high-level technical support for analyzing, designing, developing, installing, repairing, and maintaining complex systems.
  • Resolve unique technical problems independently, coordinating with stakeholders as necessary.
  • Evaluate diagnostic data from multiple systems to support a network of services.
  • Collaborate with system users, planners, engineers, and contractors for system acceptance and problem resolution.
  • Develop recommendations for enhancing system efficiency through technology modifications.
  • Provide training, mentoring, and guidance to FAA employees and contractors.
  • Ensure compliance with Operational Risk Management (ORM) and safety protocols during maintenance activities.
  • Represent the organization as the primary technical point of contact on projects and programs.

Requirements

  • Experience in equipment diagnosis, repair, and evaluation of performance in systems such as Localizer (LOC), Glide Slope (GS), and VOR.
  • Ability to lead and train other specialists in technical areas.
  • Knowledge of flight inspection references and documentation for ground-based navigational equipment.
  • Experience at the next lower level (Pay Band H/level III or FG/GS-12) or equivalent.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with emerging technologies related to NAS operations.
  • Familiarity with safety training and personal protective equipment (PPE) protocols.
