About the position

The Instructional Designer/Trainer at Adams State University is a full-time position responsible for providing online course development assistance and training to faculty. This role focuses on enhancing the quality of online education through the use of Learning Management Systems and instructional design principles. The position involves both direct support for course development and training sessions for faculty, ensuring compliance with quality assurance standards and effective use of technology in teaching.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct course development assistance and support to instructors developing online courses in accordance with ASU's quality assurance standards.
  • Provide ongoing and systematic support to instructors to help assure course compliance.
  • Assist in developing multimedia for instructional online classroom needs using institutionally supported technologies and software.
  • Provide technology troubleshooting assistance to both students and instructors as needed.
  • Assist with online course quality assurance, including Quality Assurance Reviews and Mid-Semester Evaluations.
  • Provide face-to-face and online training to full-time and adjunct faculty in the use of supported distance learning and campus technologies.
  • Provide training in good instructional design methodology for both online and face-to-face courses.
  • Develop training aids for the use of all supported campus distance learning and campus technologies.
  • Manage project and course development training activities.
  • Provide group and individual training to all faculty in the use of supported institution technologies.
  • Assist faculty in the use of institutionally supported assessment collection technology.
  • Facilitate assessment collection with academic departments.

Requirements

  • Demonstrate experience with instructional design principles and pedagogical strategies to enhance learning.
  • Ability to use a Learning Management System.
  • Must possess or have the ability to successfully complete the Applying the QM rubric course through Quality Matters.
  • Ability to use technology in the development of training aids.
  • Demonstrate the ability to develop and plan a conference/training program.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Possess good problem solving, collaboration, and planning skills and be willing to work in team environments.
  • Ability to work with staff with diverse backgrounds and perspectives on the use of technology in various learning environments.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage time independently.
  • Ability to treat others with respect, civility, and courtesy.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Blackboard Ultra Course View preferred.
  • Experience with Class Collaborate preferred.
  • Experience with Blackboard Learn course management system preferred.
  • Experience in developing video lectures for online course development preferred.
  • Preferred experience in assisting faculty to develop online courses within the Blackboard Learn Learning Management System.
  • Understanding of copyright law and the Teach Act.
