About the position

The Akamai CDN Engineer role is focused on the analysis, design, implementation, and maintenance of automation tasks for the platform operations and system engineering. This position requires collaboration with application owners and security vendors to enhance web application security and performance, while ensuring the reliability and efficiency of the infrastructure. The engineer will monitor and troubleshoot server and application issues, ensuring that service level agreements (SLAs) are met and that operational quality expectations are upheld.

Responsibilities

• Analyze, design, implement, and maintain automation tasks for platform operations and system engineering.
• Collaborate with application owners and security vendors to update and tune Web Application Firewall (WAF) and bot mitigation security policies.
• Work with Akamai's products and services to customize solutions for the client's digital platform.
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve server, application, and network problems.
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to narrow down problems and achieve resolution.
• Ensure SLAs are achieved and Web Platform Operations work quality expectations are met.
• Maintain the accuracy of Platform Operations procedures and documentation, including runbooks.
• Diagnose issues identified by platform, infrastructure, application, and network monitoring and work to resolve them.
• Act as an escalation point within Web Platform Operations.
• Work directly with Akamai's SMEs and professional services teams to support service engineering and operations.
• Monitor mission-critical systems and infrastructure to ensure proper function with a focus on continuous improvement and optimization.
• Identify and investigate bottlenecks and latency issues, implementing strategies to proactively address challenges.
• Measure and analyze system health at granular and holistic levels, leveraging data for decision making.

Requirements

• 5-10 years of progressive experience in cloud engineering, site reliability, devops, system infrastructure, or a related technical role.
• Deep knowledge of and experience with cloud infrastructure services (Google Cloud Platform, AWS).
• Proven experience optimizing reliability and performance and scaling technical infrastructure in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to provide data-driven recommendations for critical decision making.
• Willingness and ability to be 'on call' to address unforeseen issues outside of normal working hours as needed.
• Experience with Akamai CDN, Imperva CDN, Fastly, Cloudfront, CloudFlare, etc.
• Knowledge of performance and web acceleration techniques.
• Experience with Terraform and Kubernetes infrastructure in a production environment.
• Experience with monitoring tools such as Datadog, Quicksite, Kibana-Log Stash, Splunk, and the ability to understand metrics and their impact on system performance.
• Experience managing database systems such as PostgreSQL and MySQL.
• Experience with load-testing technologies.
