About the position

The Facility Manager for Alibaba Cloud's IDC Operations in the AMER Cluster is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing all data center operations across the Americas. This position entails managing critical electrical and mechanical systems within data centers, ensuring optimal performance and reliability. The Facility Manager will establish and maintain relationships with colocation (COLO) service providers, working collaboratively to manage and mitigate risks associated with emergent failures and daily maintenance of critical equipment. The role requires a proactive approach to evaluate service performance and drive improvements based on operational data. In addition to managing the day-to-day operations, the Facility Manager will be responsible for capacity management of facility systems, including power and cooling. This includes tracking preventative maintenance, managing changes in critical systems, and ensuring the availability of facility systems. The role also involves supporting IT managers on their projects and operations, as well as collaborating with design and project teams on new site and data-hall construction and commissioning. The Facility Manager will establish performance benchmarks, conduct analyses, and prepare comprehensive reports on all aspects of critical facility infrastructure operations and maintenance. This position requires a strong focus on safety, efficiency, and reliability, with an emphasis on continuous improvement through methodologies such as Lean and Kaizen. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, both in English and Mandarin, and will be able to travel up to 25% of the time to manage data centers located in multiple regions.

Responsibilities

  • Manage critical facility operations of Alibaba's overseas data centers.
  • Oversee changes in critical systems and respond to emergent failures.
  • Track preventative maintenance of critical equipment.
  • Manage capacity of facility systems including power and cooling.
  • Drive resolution of availability risks in facility systems.
  • Implement projects to enhance capacity, efficiency, and reliability of facility systems.
  • Support IT managers on their projects and operations.
  • Collaborate with design and project teams on new site/data-hall construction and commissioning.
  • Establish performance benchmarks and prepare reports on facility infrastructure operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (electrical, mechanical, or related field).
  • 3+ years of critical facility management or operation experience in a large-scale data center or 5+ years in large-scale production facility management.
  • Experience with MEP equipment such as UPS, generators, chillers, pumps, and cooling towers.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • High attention to detail to identify and resolve risks.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in engineering (electrical, mechanical, or related field).
  • 5+ years of critical facility management experience in large-scale data centers.
