About the position

The Production Leader at Milliken and Company is tasked with overseeing the daily management and performance of the production department at the Allen Plant in Blacksburg, SC. This role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, including ensuring safety, environmental compliance, quality control, delivery efficiency, cost management, and maintaining high morale among team members. The Production Leader must be well-versed in plant systems to guarantee adherence to standard practices throughout the production process. This position operates on a Monday to Friday schedule during the first shift, with the possibility of additional hours as needed. In this role, the Production Leader is responsible for enhancing the quality of performance within production teams. This includes ensuring that batch sheets are accurately followed and documented, conducting informal audits of batch sheets and ongoing processes, and ensuring that training systems are sufficient for the needs of the team. The Production Leader will also assist in investigating quality issues and implementing corrective actions to address them. Fostering a collaborative work environment is crucial, as the Production Leader will promote open communication, teamwork, and individual engagement to achieve departmental goals. Responsibilities also include tracking associate hours, absences, and vacations, ensuring proper payroll processing, and conducting performance evaluations for production associates. The Production Leader will facilitate morning meetings to transition shifts and communicate relevant plant status information, while also performing audits to maintain work site cleanliness and safety standards. Additionally, this role involves collaborating with Human Resources to recruit and hire production associates, enforcing safety and environmental regulations, and participating in safety and labor stabilization meetings.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for improving quality of performance of production teams.
  • Ensure batch sheets are followed and correctly documented.
  • Perform informal audits of batch sheets and reactions in process.
  • Ensure training systems are adequate.
  • Help investigations of off-quality including implementation of corrective action.
  • Foster a working environment that promotes open communications, teamwork, and individual engagement to accomplish goals and objectives.
  • Track associate hours, absences, and vacations.
  • Ensure Production Associates are paid properly, including weekly review of timesheets and correct implementation of vacation and holiday pay.
  • Track, evaluate, and review associate performance.
  • Conduct biannual reviews of production associates - operator level and warehouse associate(s).
  • Ensure production associates have adequate training to perform their job.
  • Review and evaluate associate training progression and regularly review with associates.
  • Make schedule adjustments and redirect workforce as needed to fill production orders.
  • Conduct morning meetings to transition shifts and cover relative plant status information.
  • Perform work and area audits to ensure work completed and work site housekeeping is maintained.
  • Work with Human Resources to solicit, interview, and hire Production Associates.
  • Assist in the plant-wide enforcement of all safety rules and regulations.
  • Assist in the plant-wide enforcement of all environmental rules and regulations.
  • Actively participate in the plant safety process, including participation on a safety team.
  • Actively participate in plant labor stabilization meetings.
  • Perform other duties as requested by the manager.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent, in related field.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative and ownership with little supervision.
  • Strong problem-solving capability.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead team members.
