About the position

We are seeking a dedicated and hardworking Farm Hand to join our alpaca farm in Katy, TX. The ideal candidate will have a passion for farming, cleanliness, attention to detail, outstanding customer service, and a willingness to learn various aspects of farm operations. This role requires physical stamina, mechanical knowledge, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. The Farm Hand will play a crucial role in maintaining the farm's healthy alpaca herd, cleanliness of the barn and pastures, as well as looking after two livestock guard dogs and two cats.

Responsibilities

• Maintain the cleanliness of the barn and pastures.
• Care for the alpaca herd and ensure their health and well-being.
• Look after two livestock guard dogs and two cats.
• Move and transfer hay, feed, manure, fencing, and other supplies weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Push and pull a wheelbarrow and farm cart holding up to 100 pounds.
• Operate and use all necessary equipment for farm maintenance.
• Provide outstanding customer service and educational experiences to guests.
• Memorize scripting and FAQs to educate patients and family members at the adjacent clinic.
• Assist with transporting animals between farms and to veterinary appointments.
• Help with annual shearing and transport animals to shows.

Requirements

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Possess a valid Texas driver's license.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Physical stamina to perform non-sedentary tasks in extreme weather conditions.
• Mechanical knowledge to operate farm equipment safely and efficiently.
• Ability to read, write, and count accurately for documentation purposes.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in FFA, 4H, veterinary technician, or farm life.
• Experience in customer service or educational roles.
