About the position

General Atomics is seeking a talented ALRE Systems Engineer to join our dynamic team in San Diego, California. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on first-of-a-kind product lines within the GA-EMS Systems Engineering department, specifically focusing on supporting the U.S. Navy Ford-class Aircraft Launch and Recovery (ALRE) carrier programs. The successful candidate will be responsible for evaluating requirements based on the U.S. Navy ALRE programs and adapting those requirements to meet foreign customer needs. This role requires a strong foundation in systems engineering principles, as well as the ability to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders, including customers, contractors, and internal engineering groups. As an ALRE Systems Engineer, you will provide technical analyses and judgment using a systems engineering approach for the development of new configurations of the ALRE systems. You will coordinate and interface with customers and other business sectors within the organization, potentially representing the organization as the prime technical contact. Your responsibilities will also include assisting in the development of program plans, estimates, and schedules, as well as performing system analysis and generating requirements for subsystems, components, and software. You will support the development of test plans, procedures, and reports, and will be involved in the verification and validation of systems through qualification testing. In this role, you will be expected to develop and present technical material for design reviews, collaborating with subject matter experts to update design requirements. Responsibilities

  • Provide technical analyses and judgment using a Systems Engineering approach for the development of a new configuration of the ALRE systems.
  • Coordinate and interface with customers, contractors, and engineering groups, and other business sectors within the organization.
  • Represent the organization as the prime technical contact when necessary.
  • Assist in developing program plans, estimates, and schedules.
  • Perform system analysis and generate system, sub-system, component, and software requirements to disseminate among subsystem hardware, firmware, and software design architects.
  • Support the development of test plans, test procedures, and test reports.
  • Experience with verification and validation of systems through qualification testing.
  • Develop and present technical material for design reviews, including presenting to customers.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to update design requirements.
  • Observe all laws, regulations, and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
  • Work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.

Requirements

  • Requires a bachelor's degree, master's degree, or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Six or more years of experience with a bachelor's degree, four or more years of experience with a master's degree, or two or more years with a PhD.
  • Demonstrates technical expertise and application of engineering principles, concepts, theory, and practice.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Customer focused, both internal and external.
  • Supportive of internal continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Commitment to support GA-EMS Quality objectives, including completion of training on-time, reduction of rework, and daily timecard completion.
  • Must be able to work on a self-initiated basis, with the awareness of when it is most efficient to ask for assistance from technical experts.
  • Able to work extended hours as required.
  • Secret clearance to work on U.S. military programs.

Nice-to-haves

  • Demonstrated experience in the application of IEEE Standard 1233, Guide for Developing System Requirements Specifications.
  • Demonstrated experience in the application of IEEE Standard 15288.2, Standard for Technical Reviews and Audits on Defense Programs.
  • Demonstrated experience in the application of the NAVAIR Systems Engineering Technical Reviews (SETR) process per NAVAIR SETR Process Handbook.
