About the position

Alta Risk, LLC is seeking experienced Renewal Underwriters to join their team at the company headquarters located in Overland Park, KS. The primary responsibility of the Renewal Underwriter is to meticulously review renewal submissions to determine eligibility. If an account is deemed eligible, the Renewal Underwriter will generate a renewal premium quotation and communicate the terms and conditions to the Alta Risk broker. This role requires strict adherence to ALTA Risk's Underwriting Guidelines and operation within the Renewal Underwriters Letter of Authority. The Renewal Underwriter will also be responsible for coordinating the delivery and follow-up of renewal terms and conditions with the originating underwriter. It is crucial for the Renewal Underwriter to identify any accounts that may be in jeopardy of being lost at renewal, with a requirement to bring these to the attention of the Renewal Underwriter's manager at least 30 days prior to expiration. In addition to these responsibilities, the Renewal Underwriter will work within Underwriting Guidelines to classify and rate accounts at renewal, review renewal applications for accuracy, create Renewal Spreadsheet Raters for formulating renewal quotes, and ensure that all accounts are appropriately priced to meet rate goals. The role also involves performing ISO re-rates, obtaining updated SAFER reports for accounts with Auto exposure, and communicating any accounts that may be at risk to Renewal Management. The Renewal Underwriter will also be responsible for endorsement requests during the policy term and will conduct Quality Assurance and Quality Control reviews on all bind orders. Building positive working relationships with wholesale brokers and the new business underwriting team is essential to fully understand the renewal accounts. This position requires strong time management skills to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume environment, which includes organizing, multitasking, and prioritizing account tasks effectively. The Renewal Underwriter will also review renewal account subjectivities and underlying policies for accuracy and acceptability, and perform other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Review renewal submissions to determine eligibility.
  • Generate renewal premium quotations and communicate terms and conditions to brokers.
  • Coordinate delivery and follow-up of renewal terms with originating underwriter.
  • Identify accounts in jeopardy 30 days prior to expiration and notify management.
  • Classify and rate accounts at renewal according to Underwriting Guidelines.
  • Review renewal applications for accuracy and appropriateness.
  • Create Renewal Spreadsheet Raters for re-rating and formulating renewal quotes.
  • Obtain referral approval from management for accounts outside of authority.
  • Perform ISO re-rates and obtain updated SAFER reports for Auto exposure accounts.
  • Communicate accounts at risk of being lost at renewal to management.
  • Monitor account pricing and rates to ensure goals are met.
  • Provide bind order details to Underwriting Assistants for binding/issuance.
  • Conduct Quality Assurance and Quality Control reviews on bind orders.
  • Foster positive relationships with wholesale brokers and new business underwriting teams.
  • Handle endorsement requests during the policy term.
  • Review renewal account subjectivities and underlying policies for accuracy.

Requirements

  • Full understanding and application of insurance concepts, practices, and procedures, typically acquired through a high school diploma or equivalent with 2-3 years of insurance experience, or a B.A. in insurance or risk management.
  • Ability to interact and develop relationships at all levels both internally and externally.
  • Strong detail management skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks effectively.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer applications.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, along with math skills.
  • Ability to resolve moderately complex problems.
  • Effective task organization skills.
