About the position

The AMCaT Laboratory Coordinator (RSCH AND DEV ENGR 2) at UC Davis is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Advanced Materials Characterization and Testing Laboratory. This role involves training users, maintaining laboratory equipment, implementing recharge rates, and ensuring adherence to safety protocols. The coordinator will assist in experimental design and execution while maintaining standard operating procedures to support a diverse user base in various research projects.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate day-to-day operations of the Advanced Materials Characterization and Testing Laboratory (AMCaT).
  • Train new and continuing users on laboratory equipment and safety protocols.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment for continuous and high-quality operation.
  • Assist with the design and execution of experimental plans.
  • Develop and maintain laboratory safety protocols and standard operating procedures.
  • Implement recharge rate for laboratory services.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience.
  • Expertise in operation and maintenance of at least 3 materials characterization technologies such as SEM, TEM, XPS, XRD, FIB.
  • Experience with laboratory safety protocols including hazardous waste storage and disposal.
  • Strong organizational skills to prioritize equipment maintenance and user training.
  • Knowledge of electronics and operating principles of laboratory equipment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Materials Science and Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, or related field.
  • Expertise in aberration-corrected TEM or STEM.
  • Experience in Python, C++, and/or LabView.
  • Skills in developing working relations with other university facilities.
  • Communication skills for outreach and marketing activities.
