About the position

The Medication Aide (AMAP/Med Tech) at Harmony at Martinsburg is responsible for providing quality care and assistance with daily living activities for residents, as well as administering prescribed medications within the established scope of practice. This role emphasizes encouraging residents to maintain their independence and participate in community activities, ensuring a positive and meaningful experience for all residents.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with the administration of prescribed medications within the established scope of practice.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of all policies and procedures pertaining to the position.
  • Assists residents with activities of daily living.
  • Reports incidents involving residents to appropriate individuals.
  • Performs housekeeping duties as directed by supervisor.
  • Responds promptly to all resident calls for assistance or emergency alerts.
  • Assists in planning and conducting activity programs for residents.
  • Follows confidentiality policies regarding release of resident information.
  • Assists residents to and from the dining room and activities.
  • Checks on residents, ensuring attendance at meals and activities.
  • Checks on residents who are ill and reports status or concerns to appropriate individuals.
  • Communicates verbally and in writing to report resident status and community information.
  • Assists new residents with move-in transition and provides emotional support.
  • Attends all medication trainings scheduled.
  • Completes medication cart audits as assigned and maintains the medication cart as directed.
  • Passes all medication administration observations.
  • Communicates all medication resident needs to the HCC and documents in the Daily Log.
  • Re-orders medications and communicates with resident family/RP as needed with changes.
  • Documents all medication administration on the EMAR/MAR and reports exceptions to the HCC.
  • Completes all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must have a High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must have successfully passed the written examination and possess a current Medication Aide Certification in good standing.
  • Must have worked as a medication aide during the previous 24 months in an adult care home.
  • Must have successfully completed the clinical skills validation portion of the competency evaluation prior to administration of medication.
  • Shall complete 6 hours annually of in-service training including safe practices for injections and infection control training.
  • Must satisfactorily pass 2 medication observations annually.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Must be organized and able to work well with all levels of personnel.
  • Must be polite and considerate of residents, visitors, and co-workers at all times.
  • Must be able to walk and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs and push or carry 25 lbs.
  • Must be able to safely lift and transfer residents while maintaining proper body mechanics.
  • Must be in designated uniform during working hours, including name badge.
  • Must be CPR/First Aid certified, or willing to become certified within 60 days of hire.
  • Must be able to represent the community in a positive and professional manner.
  • Must attend and complete all required in-services and staff meetings.
  • Must be able to remain calm and competent during emergencies.
  • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule that includes weekends and holidays.
