About the position

The Amazon Dedicated Cloud, AWS for government, team is seeking a cleared Cloud Engineer to join their ranks. This role is pivotal for those who are passionate about implementing innovative cloud computing solutions and tackling some of the most complex technical challenges faced by U.S. Government agencies. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to work with cutting-edge cloud technologies, contributing to the development and operation of the world's largest cloud computing infrastructure, ultimately aiming to create a better future for generations to come. In this position, the engineer will be responsible for creating tools and automation processes that allow engineers to minimize hands-on involvement in deployment and maintenance activities. The goal is to achieve maximum automation in service operations, which requires professionals who can think creatively and simplify complex problems while ensuring an optimal customer experience. The ideal candidate will focus on operational excellence and possess strong troubleshooting skills to manage complex system operations effectively. Daily responsibilities will include supporting AWS Storage and Data services engineering and operations, which encompasses region and feature builds, system health monitoring, device provisioning, troubleshooting network and configuration issues, and documenting engineering recommendations. The engineer will also be responsible for writing after-action reports that capture key events and actions taken, as well as providing on-call support when necessary. This role is integral to maintaining the high standards of service that AWS is known for, ensuring that both AWS customers and fellow engineers benefit from collaborative efforts in ongoing operations and support improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Support AWS Storage and Data services engineering and operations.
  • Complete region and feature builds.
  • Manage and monitor systems health and status.
  • Provision devices, assist with data ingestion, and perform device cleaning.
  • Troubleshoot device, network, and/or configuration related issues.
  • Identify, document, and communicate engineering and operations recommendations to team members.
  • Write and disseminate after action reports capturing key events, actions taken, and future mitigation plans.
  • Provide on-call support when necessary.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree, or Cloud+ or GICSP (Global Industrial Cyber Security Professional) or GSEC (GIAC Security Essentials) or SSCP (Systems Security Certified Practitioner)
  • 3+ years Linux systems administration experience
  • 3+ years technical troubleshooting/support experience
  • 2+ years of networking experience (TCP/IP)
  • Current, active US Government Security Clearance of Top Secret or above.

Nice-to-haves

  • 2+ years experience with cloud computing technologies.
  • 3+ years of experience with support procedures and methodologies for production computing environments.
  • 3+ years experience automating routine tasks.
  • 3+ years experience with performance and log analysis.
