About the position

The Failure Analysis Engineer Co-op at Amazon Robotics is a 6-month position designed for Mechanical Engineering students to gain hands-on experience in hardware development. The role focuses on supporting failure analysis, root cause identification, and corrective action implementation for robotic components and systems. The co-op will work closely with senior engineering staff, utilizing bench-top lab equipment to analyze hardware failures and contribute to the Quality and Reliability team.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting failure analysis and root cause identification of components and sub-systems.
  • Implementing corrective actions for field failures.
  • Analyzing data collected from the field related to hardware failures.
  • Debugging hardware to identify root causes in both lab and non-lab settings.
  • Creating product troubleshooting guides and procedures.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Material Science, or a similar discipline.
  • Strong problem-solving and debugging experience related to hardware, software, subsystems, and firmware.
  • Working understanding of bench-top instruments including oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and multi-meters.
  • Experience testing electrical/electronics and/or electromechanical products in a lab setting.
  • Must have at least one semester/term/quarter of school left after the end of the co-op.
  • Must be eligible and available for a full-time (40h/week) 6-month co-op between January - June 2025.
  • Graduation date must be December 2025 or later.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous coursework in Quality/Reliability engineering and statistics.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and understand their function.
  • Experience using statistical tools for failure analysis.
  • Hands-on experience executing test plans for hardware products.
  • Familiarity with Six Sigma methodology.
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams.
