About the position

Amazon Robotics is seeking a talented and motivated Mechanical Engineering student to join our Hardware Engineering teams for a Co-op assignment. This position offers a unique opportunity to work closely with senior engineering staff on both new and existing tools, mechanisms, modules, and systems. The ideal candidate will possess a strong mechanical aptitude, enjoy problem-solving, and be capable of managing multiple parallel tasks effectively. This co-op role is designed for a duration of six months, from January to June 2025, requiring full-time commitment of 40 hours per week. The co-op opportunities will be based in the Greater Boston Area, specifically at our state-of-the-art facilities in Westborough and North Reading, MA. These campuses provide co-ops with direct access to robotics testing labs and manufacturing facilities, allowing for hands-on experience in a cutting-edge environment. As part of an interdisciplinary team, the co-op will engage in designing and analyzing mechanisms, modules, or systems. Responsibilities will include modeling and detailing solutions using hand sketches and SolidWorks, analyzing components and systems through standard tools such as SolidWorks Simulation (FEA), and participating in brainstorming sessions. The role will also involve building models and prototypes, conducting testing, and supporting staff in writing Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), specifications, and plans. This position is ideal for students who are eager to apply their academic knowledge in a practical setting and contribute to innovative projects that have a real-world impact.

Responsibilities

  • Work as part of an interdisciplinary team to design and analyze mechanisms, modules or systems
  • Model and detail solutions in hand sketches and SolidWorks
  • Analyze components and systems using standard tools including SolidWorks Simulation (FEA) as well as hand calculations
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions
  • Build models and prototypes
  • Conduct testing
  • Support staff writing ECO's, specifications and plans

Requirements

  • Junior year or beyond in Mechanical Engineering program with at least a semester left of school after completion of the co-op
  • Must be eligible and available for a full-time (40h / week) 6-month co-op between January to June 2025
  • Solid understanding of principles, theories and concepts in mechanical engineering
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks Simulation Finite Element Analysis tools
