About the position

The Product Development Engineer Co-Op at Amazon Robotics is a 6-month internship designed for students pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field. This role offers hands-on experience in applying Design for Excellence (DFx) principles during the new product introduction process, integrating customer requirements, and collaborating cross-functionally to enhance product development. The co-op will work in a dynamic environment focused on robotics and automation, contributing to innovative solutions that improve customer experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Creating mechanisms, processes, and/or documentation to improve product development process
  • Gathering, analyzing, and documenting functional/technical requirements for new projects and enhancements
  • Driving resolutions within the supply chain network and addressing manufacturability, production, or design issues
  • Proposing design changes that enhance product manufacturability and testability
  • Supporting the design and implementation of production manufacturing tools and fixtures
  • Participating in brainstorming sessions
  • Supporting the build of models and prototypes
  • Supporting physical prototype testing, compiling feedback, and tracking to completion
  • Supporting staff writing and evaluating Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), specifications, and plans

Requirements

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field
  • Availability for a full-time (40 hours/week) 5-month co-op between January - June 2025
  • Graduation planned for December 2025 or later
  • Ability to travel up to 15% required (domestic and international)

Nice-to-haves

  • 6+ months of practical application of technical skills outside the classroom
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software (preferably SolidWorks) and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) tools (preferably Agile PLM)
  • Hands-on experience with drawing creation, Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T), and engineering documentation
  • Experience in managing the full lifecycle of technical projects
  • Demonstrated ability to support physical prototype testing and track issues to resolution
  • Problem-solving, teamwork, and communication skills
  • Coursework in Mechanics of Materials, Manufacturing Processes, and Design for Manufacturing
  • Experience working for Amazon or other relevant engineering/manufacturing organizations
