About the position

Amazon Robotics is seeking a talented and motivated Engineering student for a 6-month co-op assignment within our Hardware Engineering teams. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with senior engineering staff on innovative tools, mechanisms, modules, and systems, contributing to real-world challenges in robotics and software. The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical aptitude, enjoy problem-solving, and be capable of managing multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Enables greater team agility via improvements to design, automation, development, test, or operations.
  • Identifies risks and mitigations in designs solving defined technical problems and makes trade-offs.
  • Develops software for small tools and applications, ensuring code is tested, logical, and maintainable.
  • Creates technology solutions that are simple to start but may have opportunities for optimizations, efficiencies, or scaling.
  • Writes clear, accurate, and concise documentation.
  • Performs basic troubleshooting to mitigate issues for team or customer impact.
  • Conducts simulations on workcell or equipment performance and publishes metrics to monitor program effectiveness.
  • Integrates features and combines outputs from a multidisciplinary team into a unified product.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a Bachelors or Masters Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Computer Science Engineering.
  • Programming experience in Python, C++ is a plus.
  • Basic understanding in the use of CAD software such as Solidworks.
  • Data processing skills using analytics software such as Minitab.
  • Basic understanding of different sensors (pressure, force, distance, etc.) available in the market place.
  • Experience designing and testing mechatronic systems with microcontrollers, sensors, and actuators.
  • Desire and energy to work in a fast-paced agile environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with and programming industrial robots (ABB, Fanuc, etc).
  • Experience writing software executed for dynamic physical systems.
  • Familiarity with industrial standard electric and pneumatic actuators.
  • Hands-on experience with the ability to craft simple proof-of-concept models.
  • Experience debugging complex systems.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work well with teams.
  • Experience with ROS.
  • Experience with Git and working in large repositories.
