About the position

The Ambulance Billing Specialist at A-TEC Ambulance, Inc. is responsible for ensuring accurate billing and coding for ambulance services. This role involves managing patient information, processing claims, and maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations. The specialist will work closely with the billing and coding team to support the financial operations of the ambulance service, ensuring that all reports and claims are handled with precision and confidentiality.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure 100% accountability of all reports in your possession at all times.
  • Consult with Office Supervisor, Coding Specialist or Trainer for guidance on appropriate ICD-10 coding or other data entry questions, as needed.
  • Enter third-party insurance information to the report when available.
  • Safeguard all patient information by keeping all written and verbal communications confidential.
  • Ensure all actions are in compliance with HIPAA and other appropriate federal and state laws and regulations.
  • Sort, organize, and prioritize documents for processing.
  • Prepare claims for pre and post approvals for payment.
  • Process wheelchair claims and assign payor/payment codes.
  • Maintain customer information and send billing reminders.
  • Create customer invoices and perform other duties as assigned by supervisors and directors.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Certified Professional Coder/Certified Ambulance Coder (required)
  • Proven experience as Certified Billing and Coding for Ambulance Necessity
  • Medical terminology: 1 year (preferred)
  • Proficient in English (oral and written)
  • Outstanding organizational and multitasking abilities
  • Active listener with excellent communication skills
  • Ability to perform close vision work
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds (light to moderate lifting may be required at times)
  • Ability to operate a variety of office equipment such as copier, shredder, computer, calculator, cellular phone, desk phone.
