About the position

The Ambulatory Clinic RN Occupational Health position at The University of Kansas Health System involves providing direct nursing care in an ambulatory setting. The RN is responsible for assessing patient needs, implementing care plans, and ensuring quality patient outcomes through independent nursing judgment and collaboration with healthcare teams. This full-time role requires a commitment to patient education and effective communication with patients and families.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct patient care within the ambulatory setting based on the nursing process.
  • Performs preliminary assessment of patients through observation and chart review.
  • Evaluates unstable or complex patient care situations and facilitates appropriate intervention.
  • Implements appropriate clinical decisions and demonstrates appropriate use of expert peers and/or management.
  • Accepts accountability and uses independent nursing judgment for care provided by self and by healthcare providers to whom care is delegated.
  • Demonstrates the appropriate use of standards, effective use of resources, and evaluation of patient response in the delivery of patient care.
  • Identifies teach/learning needs of patients and provides educational instruction to patients and families.
  • Evaluates effectiveness of patient and family teaching and documents in patient's charts.
  • Responds to/refers incoming patient treatment-related phone calls.
  • Completes necessary forms (i.e., FMLA, DME, Home Health orders) and obtains physician signatures as appropriate.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate
  • Associate Degree in Nursing
  • 6 months of RN experience
  • 2 or more years RN experience to be an Ambulatory Clinic RN PRN
  • Licensed Registered Nurse (LRN) - Multi-State - State Board of Nursing
  • Current active multistate state Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing or active single state RN license in good standing.
