About the position

The Ambulatory Operations and Informatics Lead at The University of Kansas Health System is responsible for applying informatics knowledge to enhance operational workflows within the electronic health record (EHR) system. This role involves collaborating with operational leadership, end users, and IT staff to develop and implement standard workflows, assess usability, and recommend optimizations. The lead will oversee large ambulatory projects, ensuring that operational goals are met and that EHR documentation complies with regulatory standards. This position requires strong leadership skills and the ability to drive change through technology governance.

Responsibilities

  • Lead large health system-wide projects related to ambulatory operations and informatics.
  • Conduct operational and informatics workflow analysis, design, build, testing, and communication plans.
  • Ensure standard workflows are implemented at go-live and follow system life cycle standards.
  • Guide project team members on changes through technology governance bodies.
  • Advise on regulatory, compliance, and quality standards of EHR documentation.
  • Round in clinics to understand operational workflows and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Lead ambulatory EHR optimization efforts to meet operational goals and compliance standards.
  • Provide change management leadership and guidance to teammates and operational leaders.
  • Utilize Lean methodologies to document standards and increase ambulatory efficiency.
  • Develop policies and procedures in partnership with operational leadership for ambulatory practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • 5 or more years of informatics experience.
  • 3 or more years of direct patient care experience.
  • EPIC Proficiency/Certification within 6 months of orientation completion.
  • Informatics certification within 1 year of orientation completion.

Nice-to-haves

  • Professional Clinical License or Certification in Kansas or Missouri.
  • 5 or more years of direct patient care experience; literature search/review experience.
