About the position

The Ambulatory Procedure Scheduler at Carilion Clinic is responsible for managing the surgery schedules of multiple providers, ensuring effective communication and coordination of patient care. This role involves preparing surgery packets, documenting patient information, and facilitating pre- and post-surgical care. The scheduler plays a crucial role in delivering exceptional customer service and patient care while collaborating with various clinical staff and departments.

Responsibilities

• Manage multiple providers' surgery schedules effectively.
• Prepare surgery packets for physicians to take to surgical facilities.
• Communicate patient information accurately and efficiently as directed.
• Coordinate pre- and post-surgical care for patients, including appointments and education classes.
• Document patient information and distribute it to key personnel in other facilities.
• Ensure proper equipment is available for surgery by coordinating with surgical reps and material management.
• Maintain OR Utilization report for operating facilities and ambulatory surgery centers.
• Assist with scheduling tests and outside physicians as applicable.
• Complete authorization or work with the authorization team for pre-certification.
• Communicate with Financial Counselors regarding surgeries.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent education required; Associates or Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Completion of an accredited medical secretarial or business program preferred.
• Health care experience preferred.
• Essential keyboarding skills and computer knowledge required.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and CPT coding preferred.
• Effective interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills required.
• Above average organizational skills with attention to detail.
