About the position

The Principal Network Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the public-facing municipal network for the City and County of San Francisco. This role focuses on providing free Internet access to affordable housing residents and supporting the #SFWiFi network in parks. The position requires a strong technical background and excellent communication skills to collaborate with various teams and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement the network infrastructure for the City's public-facing networks.
• Monitor network performance and perform routine maintenance tasks.
• Maintain the security of the network infrastructure and conduct security audits.
• Troubleshoot network problems and develop solutions to resolve issues.
• Safeguard the network infrastructure to ensure quick recovery from disruptions.

Requirements

• An associate degree in computer science, computer engineering, information systems, or a closely related field, or equivalent experience.
• Five years of experience analyzing, installing, configuring, enhancing, and/or maintaining enterprise network components.

Nice-to-haves

• Cisco CCNA or CCNP (or higher) routing and switching certification.
• Experience with Cisco network switches and wireless access points.
• Experience with MikroTik network switches and microwave radio equipment.
• Experience with Ubiquiti switches and wireless access points.
• Strong technical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
