As an AmeriCorps member, the pay, called a living stipend, is $12,321 that will be split up & distributed over the period of 12 months bi-weekly. Each bi-weekly check will be $473.88. This is a part-time contract/commitment for one year (12 months) with a minimum of 900 hours. Upon successful completion of the contract, minimum hours and satisfactory fulfillment of the one-year contract, you would be eligible for an Education Award of $3,697.50. The AmeriCorps member will be placed at New City Plaza serving up to 299 elderly and non-elderly disabled residents. The primary goal of the AmeriCorps Member is to support elderly residents to maintain their public housing subsidy assistance so they can age in place. The AmeriCorps member will support the service coordinator in developing relationships with residents that encourage participation in services and establishing a service plan to meet the needs of New City Plaza residents. The AmeriCorps member will meet with residents to conduct a Strengths and Needs assessment. Through these meetings, the AmeriCorps member will begin to build rapport with residents that will increase the likelihood that they will utilize the resources available in their community. Using the data collected in the assessment, the AmeriCorps member will assist with the planning, coordination, and implementation of on-site programming to best meet the needs of residents. The AmeriCorps member will also coordinate employment and training activities for residents, refer residents to Department of Workforce Services and Easter Seals. The AmeriCorps Member will help facilitate communication between residents and property management, assist residents with preparing for and passing annual re-certifications, educate residents about possible lease violations and preventive activities (example: housekeeping, budgeting, etc.) and help residents navigate the social services system to apply for benefits.
