About the position

Great American Insurance Group is offering an internship opportunity within the AFG Tax Division, designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of federal income tax law as it pertains to corporations, partnerships, and foreign entities. This internship is a full-time role for the spring semester, lasting 12 weeks, and requires a commitment of 40 hours per week. Interns will gain hands-on experience by utilizing tax preparation software to create corporate federal income tax returns and quarterly provisions. This role will involve collaboration with tax department personnel and various financial, investment, and management contacts across our subsidiaries to gather necessary data for tax compliance. In addition to preparing federal income tax returns, interns will assist with state and local tax compliance, including extensions and estimates. They will also have the opportunity to participate in special projects and contribute to the development and implementation of tax technology initiatives. The internship follows a hybrid work schedule, allowing for flexibility in daily hours and the option to work from home two days a week, while still adhering to core working hours. This position not only aims to enhance technical skills but also encourages the development of analytical and organizational abilities through various assigned projects.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares Federal Income tax returns.
  • Prepares Federal Income tax provision calculations and coordinates with accounting team to book journal entries.
  • Assists with state and local tax returns, extensions, and estimates.
  • Performs other duties and completes other projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Current enrollment in an accredited college or university with a major in accounting and an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Intermediate level Microsoft Office skills.
  • Ability to manage workload independently.
  • Ability to multi-task.
