About the position
The American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter position at Therapeutic Outreach, Inc. is designed to assist hearing-disabled students in mainstream classrooms. The role involves fluent signing to interpret lessons, facilitate communication between students and teachers, and support students during extracurricular activities. The interpreter will also collaborate with teachers to enhance student interactions and social growth, ensuring a safe and inclusive learning environment.
Responsibilities
- Assist hearing-disabled students in mainstream classrooms by interpreting lessons taught by the classroom teacher.
- Help students ask questions of the teacher using fluent signing.
- Facilitate interaction and communication between hearing-disabled students and hearing students and staff.
- Interpret for hearing-disabled students during extracurricular events and parent-teacher conferences.
- Collaborate with teachers in assessment, curriculum implementation, and student interactions.
- Enforce safe behaviors and enhance the social growth of students in the classroom.
- Interpret behavioral directions and provide physical assistance when necessary.
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience preferred, but new graduates will be considered.
- Must meet regulated licensure and/or state certification requirements.
