About the position

The American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter will provide accurate and impartial interpretation services between spoken English and ASL in various settings. This role is essential for facilitating communication for Deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility in diverse environments such as classrooms and conferences.

Responsibilities

  • Provide accurate and impartial interpretation services from spoken English to American Sign Language (ASL) and vice versa.
  • Interpret in diverse environments, including classrooms, meetings, conferences, and other events, ensuring clear communication between parties.
  • Work with individuals with varying levels of ASL proficiency.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) code of professional conduct.
  • Adapt interpretations to accommodate different signing styles and regional sign variations.
  • Clarify and explain concepts as needed, while maintaining the integrity of the message.
  • Assist in creating an inclusive and accessible environment for Deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals.
  • Engage in professional development to stay updated on best practices in ASL interpreting and Deaf culture.

Requirements
