About the position

The American Sign Language Video Interpreter is responsible for facilitating communication between American Sign Language (ASL) and English speakers through video interpreting sessions. This role is crucial in breaking communication barriers across various industries, including healthcare, government, and law enforcement. The interpreter must process information quickly and accurately while maintaining professionalism and cultural sensitivity in a remote work environment.

Responsibilities

• Handle on-demand video interpreting calls between ASL and English speakers.
• Respond promptly to video interpreting sessions in a friendly and professional manner.
• Participate in online training sessions to enhance interpreting skills.
• Deliver interpretation services via video while typing data on a company-provided device.
• Render correct concepts and meanings according to established interpretation protocols.
• Interpret clearly in both languages using proper pronunciation and polite expressions.
• Maintain a professional demeanor throughout video interpreting sessions.
• Remain calm during challenging interpreting situations, especially in emergencies.
• Follow client instructions to meet expectations of Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing individuals.
• Understand industry-specific protocols and terminology for various sectors.

Requirements

• Proficiency in American Sign Language and English.
• Experience in video interpreting or related field preferred.
• Ability to process information quickly and accurately.
• Strong understanding of cultural sensitivity and diversity in communication.
• Professional demeanor and courteous communication skills.
