About the position

Cayuse Civil, LLC is seeking an American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter to provide interpretation services primarily within the State of Arizona. This role is crucial in facilitating communication across various sectors, including education, legal, medical, environmental, and social services. The interpreter will be responsible for accurately interpreting spoken language in diverse settings, ensuring that deaf individuals can fully engage in conversations, lectures, and meetings. The position requires a commitment to the mission, vision, and core values of Cayuse, emphasizing high-quality service delivery and community engagement. The ASL Interpreter will work closely with faculty and staff to enhance communication with deaf community members, collaborating with other interpreters to ensure effective service provision. The role may also involve utilizing technology to transcribe spoken English in certain environments, adapting to the needs of the audience and the context of the interpretation. Additional duties may be assigned as necessary, reflecting the dynamic nature of the position and the organization's commitment to meeting client needs. Candidates must possess a strong foundation in ASL interpretation, with relevant certifications and experience in various interpretation contexts. Responsibilities

  • Accurately interpreting spoken work situations like lectures, conversations, and meetings
  • Translating American Sign Language into English
  • Working with an organization's faculty to better facilitate communication with deaf members of the community
  • Collaborating with other ASL Interpreters
  • Utilizing technology to transcribe spoken English in some settings
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • High school/BA Degree or equivalent in years of experience
  • MISS, RID certification or equivalent
  • 5+ years of experience in Language Liaison; Education, Medical, Environmental, Military Interpretation
  • Registry of Interpretation for Deaf (RID) certification
  • Board of Evaluation of Interpretation certification program (BEI)
  • Fluency in one or more languages such as Amharic, Arabic, Bengali, Burmese, Cantonese, Chin Hakka, Dari, Farsi/Persian, French, German, Gujarati, Haitian Creole, Hindi, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, Nepali, Pashto, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Somali, Spanish, Tagalog, Tigrinya, Turkish, Ukrainian, Urdu, Uzbek, Vietnamese, and ASL
  • Ability to pass a background check

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience interpreting for National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters (NBCMI)
  • Experience with Department of Social Services (DSHS)
  • Experience with Certified Health Interpretation (CHI)
  • Experience in Federal courts and legal settings
