About the position

The Country Risk team in BMI, a Fitch Solutions Company, is currently seeking an analyst based out of our New York office. In this role, you will contribute to our top-ranked independent research team, providing risk and market intelligence services. Your analytical research will support senior decision-makers in banks, consultancies, multinational corporations, investment funds, and government agencies. As a member of the Americas country risk team, you will be responsible for providing regular economic, political risk, and financial market analysis and forecasts for a portfolio of countries. Your duties will include writing research notes on a daily basis and contributing to monthly and quarterly analyses. You will produce both country-specific and thematic regional research covering topics such as economic growth, fiscal and monetary policy, trade, debt dynamics, political risk, financial markets, and demographics. Additionally, you will work on maintaining and further developing proprietary data sets that add analytical value to our research. You will also engage with sales and clients to represent the team, delivering key views and forecasts in a concise and articulate manner during client engagements and at industry events. This role is based in our New York office and requires a degree in economics or a closely related field, along with relevant experience as a macroeconomic or sovereign risk analyst, particularly in analytical writing, data management, and forecasting.

Responsibilities

  • Work as part of the Americas country risk team, providing regular economic, political risk and financial market analysis and forecasts for a portfolio of countries.
  • Write research notes on a daily basis, contributing to monthly and quarterly analysis.
  • Produce both country-specific and thematic regional research including economic growth, fiscal & monetary policy, trade, debt dynamics, political risk, financial markets and demographics.
  • Maintain and further develop proprietary data sets that add analytical value.
  • Work with sales and clients to represent the team and deliver key views and forecasts during client engagements and at industry events.

Requirements

  • Degree in economics or a closely related field.
  • Relevant background working as a macroeconomic/sovereign risk analyst required, with experience in analytical writing, data management, and forecasting.

  • Ability to manage own time and adhere to publication deadlines.
  • Strong public speaker.
  • Ability to work with and analyze large data sets and forecast across key macroeconomic indicators.
  • Familiarity analyzing connections between political and macroeconomic risk.
  • Experience analyzing political and economic risk highly desirable.
  • Fluent spoken and written English (Portuguese/Spanish are a plus).
  • Experience covering Latin America countries is a plus, particularly Brazil.
  • Strong team-working and communication skills, but also able to work independently.
