About the position

The AMSTI Materials Worker is a temporary part-time role focused on supporting the daily operations of the materials center at The University of Alabama. This position involves constructing and refurbishing science and math teaching kits, managing inventory, and ensuring the organization and safety of materials. The worker will also deliver scientific equipment to high school science teachers in the surrounding counties, representing the university in a professional manner.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the daily operation of the materials center.
  • Construct and refurbish science and math teaching kits according to specifications.
  • Assist with inventory control by stocking kits and supplies, maintaining stock, and rotating stock.
  • Maintain organization of the materials center for efficient use of space and safe storage of materials.
  • Deliver scientific equipment, materials, and supplies to high school science teachers in the surrounding counties.
  • Present a positive and professional image for The University of Alabama.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid U.S. driver's license.
  • Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire with an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report.

Nice-to-haves

  • Ability to operate University owned motor vehicles while complying with safety codes and traffic regulations.
  • Ability to recognize and report mechanical problems.
  • Proficient in the use of email software or standard desktop software.
  • Ability to compose written reports and updates regarding delivery status.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with teachers and administrators.
