About the position

The Budget Analyst plays a crucial role in managing and evaluating the working budget for appropriateness of coding and spending. This position involves conducting pre-audits, approving purchases, and assisting in the development of the annual budget for assigned areas. The analyst will also research costs for new programs and recommend adjustments to the budget as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in annual operating, capital, and school system budget preparation and administration.
  • Conduct fiscal impact analyses and revenue and expenditure forecasting.
  • Supervise and coordinate the preparation of budget manuals and comprehensive budget documents.
  • Advise departments and divisions on budget problems, policies, and procedures.
  • Assist in maintaining proper budgetary controls.
  • Prepare and administer the school system's annual financial reports.
  • Assist department and division staff in developing and improving operational objectives.
  • Conduct administrative, productivity, and systems studies; evaluate and prepare reports for improving policies and procedures.
  • Design and conduct surveys on financial and staffing requirements.
  • Perform independent statistical and research studies to monitor economic processes affecting the budget.
  • Respond to inquiries regarding budget issues.
  • Review allocations and expenditures for compliance with laws and regulations.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in accounting or a related field with additional accounting coursework.
  • Three years of increasingly responsible experience in budget, accounting, and/or finance.
  • Must be qualified to sit for the NC CPA examination.
