About the position

The Analyst in Corporate Functions Control Management, Risk ID, Assessment & Testing at American Express is responsible for leading risk identification and assessment activities, developing and executing a comprehensive testing strategy to ensure compliance and effective operations within corporate functions. This role involves extensive collaboration across various business units to enhance operational risk management and ensure adherence to regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead risk identification and assessment activities for corporate functions.
  • Develop and perform a comprehensive testing strategy to ensure compliance and effective operations.
  • Assist in identifying specific risks throughout business processes and systems.
  • Support business units in their risk assessment performance, including Process Self Risk Assessments (PRSAs).
  • Compile key operational risk trends, activities, and events through control monitoring.
  • Proactively identify high-risk areas for intervention and conduct independent quality assurance and process testing.

Requirements

  • 1-2 years of experience in operational risk management, preferably within Risk or Internal Audit functions.
  • Understanding of critical operational risk management lifecycle activities.
  • Strong project management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in process governance and understanding of regulatory frameworks and operational standards.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze data and evaluate risk scenarios.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, Risk Management, or related field; advanced degrees or certifications are advantageous.
  • Experience in supporting operational risk identification and assessment activities.
  • Experience in facilitating risk assessments and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Experience in supporting independent control monitoring and identifying control improvements.
  • Experience in thematic risk reporting to provide actionable insights.
