The Analyst, Data Analytics position at Southern Company is a critical role responsible for conducting quantitative analysis on structured pricing products and developing tools and models for forecasting and valuation. The incumbent will maintain existing quantitative models and provide detailed reports on model results in a timely and accurate manner. This role is accountable for continuously improving models, analysis, and databases across various markets. The successful candidate will develop and implement advanced modeling methodologies that support company-wide business decision-making. Establishing close working relationships with other teams across the enterprise is essential for this position. The role requires a strong functional expertise in analyzing and organizing key customer data for pricing and planning purposes. The analyst will manage, improve, and validate existing predictive models, including running monthly reports that summarize key forecasting results for organizational use. Additionally, the position involves developing new statistical models to support special project analyses as requested, leveraging innovative technologies such as machine learning and AI techniques to enhance data analytical capabilities and support the company's growth strategy. A solid understanding of the importance of data analytics to the company's profitability is crucial. The analyst will constantly seek ways to improve current models across multiple markets to mitigate potential risks and enhance profitability. A thorough knowledge of quantitative methods, statistical models, and optimization concepts is required, along with the ability to apply these concepts to real business situations. The role also involves supporting internal and external audits on models and analytics tools, collaborating with other teams to develop modeling tools and analysis reports, and effectively communicating project results and statuses to the appropriate audience. The analyst will partner with management in decision-making processes and influence the actions of others to ensure the achievement of business goals.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mathematics, economics, engineering, or a similar discipline.
  • 3-5 years' experience in data analytics and database management.
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office Suite such as Excel and Access.
  • Knowledge of database management systems such as Oracle, SQL Server, or MySQL.
  • Proven experience working with large databases and using statistical models for valuation and prediction.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with various departments and stakeholders in a timely manner.
  • 5-9 years' experience in data gathering, analytics, and reporting for senior level.
  • Proven track record of model creation and management in a business environment.
  • Extensive experience in manipulating large databases using SQL, Hadoop, Spark, Azure, or AWS for senior level.
  • Experience with data visualization in Power BI, SSRS, or other comparable tools for senior level.
  • Demonstrate quantitative skills and ability to apply complex financial and statistical principles for senior level.
  • Hands-on programming skills using SPSS, SAS, Python, or R for senior level.
  • 9+ years' experience in data gathering, analytics, and reporting for staff level.
  • Technical leadership experience and programming skills using SPSS, SAS, Python, or R for staff level.

Nice-to-haves

  • Graduate degree, Ph.D. in a quantitative discipline.
  • Utility, natural gas, or other energy industry experience.
