About the position

The Assistant Analyst/Analyst position within the DOE Revenue Unit of the Mayor's Office of Management and Budget (OMB) focuses on preparing and managing the Department of Education's revenue budget, which is a critical component of the city's financial planning. This role involves analyzing revenue streams, ensuring accuracy in financial reporting, and collaborating with various stakeholders to support the educational budget that impacts over one million students in the city.

Responsibilities

  • Help prepare the DOE's annual revenue budget, including evaluating revenue-related requests and presenting issues to senior management.
  • Enter revenue budget actions into the City's financial management system and ensure accuracy.
  • Analyze monthly cash flow actuals and create a cash flow plan to meet the planned revenue budget.
  • Prepare technical financial reports to project anticipated annual revenues and monitor claims/bills processed.
  • Review, monitor, and analyze legislation and policy proposals affecting the revenue budget.
  • Create documents containing financial information and recommendations for action.
  • Assist other Units in the Education Task Force and work on special or ad-hoc projects as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Public Policy Analysis/Administration, or a related field with no or one year of experience for Assistant Analyst.
  • Bachelor's degree in the same fields with a minimum of two years of experience or a Master's degree in a related field for Analyst.
  • Strong computer technology skills, particularly in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong process, project, and time management skills.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including conflict management.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in budgetary planning/management or financial analysis.
  • Familiarity with public policy analysis/administration.
