About the position

The Analyst position in Hedge Fund Operations at RBC Capital Markets focuses on the day-to-day deliverables and developing solutions based on subject expertise. This role requires the analyst to document procedures and process flows independently, perform user testing for process enhancements, and serve as a go-to person for day-to-day questions from other areas. The analyst will play a key role in obtaining independent valuations and returns associated with hedge fund positions in the trading portfolio, as well as performing all aspects of alternative asset operations including subscriptions, redemptions, and fee calculations related to hedge fund transactions. Additionally, the analyst will provide operational support for Physical Settlements, IPS, and Muni-GIC desks as required, ensuring that all responsibilities are carried out in accordance with RBC's Code of Conduct, Values, and Guiding Principles, while adhering to RBC Privacy principles. The day-to-day focus of this role is on resolving complex problems or transactions, where expertise is required to interpret against policies, guidelines, or processes. Analysts at this level typically have full ownership for one or more processes, reports, procedures, or products, and may be considered analytical or procedural experts representing a unit or team on cross-functional process or project deliverables. Responsibilities include communicating with hedge fund managers and administrators to independently value hedge fund returns and valuations, verifying and obtaining sign-off on product-related transactions, preparing and confirming fee calculations due to hedge funds and counterparties, maintaining statements received from hedge funds, and supporting various front office teams with respect to hedge fund prices and valuations. The analyst will also oversee technology initiatives, liaise with both internal and external auditors to facilitate SOX and financial audits, coordinate daily funding needs for AAG structured products business, and process transactions across multiple systems. Training and supervising new staff, assisting with ensuring weekly/monthly team objectives are met, and providing support to Physical Settlements are also key aspects of this role.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate with hedge fund managers and administrators to independently value hedge fund returns and valuations.
  • Verify and obtain sign-off on product related transactions.
  • Prepare and confirm fee calculations due to hedge funds and counterparties.
  • Maintain statements received from hedge funds.
  • Support various front office teams with respect to hedge fund prices and valuations.
  • Maintain information related to hedge funds and ensure that the proper parties receive the relevant information.
  • Prepare/Review Sophis Daily Activity Report.
  • Oversee Technology Initiatives.
  • Liaise with both internal and external auditors to facilitate SOX and financial audits.
  • Coordinate daily funding needs for AAG structured products business.
  • Coordinate and process transactions across multiple systems.
  • Train and supervise new staff as required.
  • Assist with ensuring weekly/monthly team objectives are met.
  • Review and update wire instructions.
  • Coordinate outgoing wire payments.
  • Identify and advise on incoming cash transactions.
  • Support IPS and Muni-GIC businesses as required.
  • Provide support to Physical Settlements including but not limited to Physical Receive and Delivers, Balance NSCC End of Day Settlement, Maintain R D Overnight Box.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree with emphasis in Finance, Accounting, Mathematics or Economics.
  • Reasonable understanding of financial markets and products.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel and Access.
  • Experience with Sophis.
  • Keen attention to detail.
  • Willingness to obtain Series 99.
