About the position

The University of Illinois Foundation is seeking an Analyst for Investment Operations to join their team in Chicago, IL. This position is crucial for supporting the investment team that manages a diverse multi-asset class investment portfolio. The Analyst will play a key role in ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of data, as well as maintaining policies and procedures that align with industry best practices. The role emphasizes leveraging technology to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness in investment operations. As an Investment Operations Analyst, you will be responsible for a variety of tasks that include entering transactions and valuations into the internal investment portfolio system, as well as initiating transactions in the custodian's trade order management system. You will also be tasked with reconciling, researching, and resolving discrepancies related to trades, valuations, and performance between the internal systems, custodians, and investment managers. This position requires a strong analytical mindset to prepare performance reports and analytics for both internal and external stakeholders. In addition to transaction management, the Analyst will maintain an internal database of investment documents, ensuring that information provided by investment managers is monitored, downloaded, and organized effectively. You will also be responsible for maintaining liquidity and fee terms for all investments, preparing cash flow projections, and analyzing cash needs. Completing subscription and redemption documents, responding to KYC/AML requests, and assisting with operational due diligence on new and existing investments are also key responsibilities of this role. Furthermore, you will assist with annual audit requests, making this position integral to the overall investment operations of the Foundation.

Responsibilities

  • Enter transactions and valuations in the internal investment portfolio system and initiate transactions in the custodian's trade order management system.
  • Reconcile, research, and resolve any trade, valuation, and performance-related discrepancies between the internal investment portfolio system, custodian, and investment manager.
  • Prepare performance reporting and related analytics for internal and external constituents.
  • Maintain internal database of investment documents by monitoring, downloading, and organizing information provided by investment managers.
  • Maintain liquidity and fee terms for all investments in the internal investment portfolio system and prepare cash flow projections and analysis of cash needs.
  • Complete subscription and redemption documents for review and execution and respond to KYC/AML requests.
  • Respond to various surveys regarding asset allocation, fees, and performance.
  • Assist with operational due diligence on new and existing investments.
  • Assist with annual audit requests.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with track record of strong academic achievement.
  • 2-5 years of progressive experience.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills.
  • Process-oriented and ability to manage simultaneous projects.
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work collaboratively.
  • Advanced proficiency with Excel and adeptness at learning new software/systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior investment operations experience at an endowment, foundation, pension, or fund administrator is highly desirable.
