About the position

The Analyst Revenue Coding position is a critical role within the healthcare coding department, focusing on maintaining high coding standards and improving the effectiveness of dynamic coding processes. The analyst will serve as the resident expert in dynamic coding, organizing and planning projects that enhance interdepartmental collaboration and efficiency. This role involves performing detailed analyses aimed at improving dynamic coding practices, including reviewing PFS systems edits and validating coding related to the Charge Description Master (CDM), specifically in the application of CPT and HCPCS codes. The analyst will also engage in focused investigations to facilitate communication and cooperation among departments, ultimately enhancing the charging processes across the organization. In addition to analytical responsibilities, the analyst will play a key role in educating various departments on appropriate charging, billing, and coding issues to ensure compliance with regulatory standards. This includes serving as a resource for special projects that require in-depth analysis of data elements related to coding and reimbursement. The position demands a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to work independently while making informed decisions regarding changes, additions, or corrections to the chargemaster. The analyst will be expected to maintain a comprehensive understanding of departmental procedures and serve as a knowledgeable resource for all departments regarding charge items, services, and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain high coding standards within the department.
  • Organize and plan projects to improve dynamic coding effectiveness across departments.
  • Perform analysis for dynamic coding improvement, including PFS systems edits and coding validation related to CDM.
  • Assist in focused investigations to enhance charging processes and facilitate communication among departments.
  • Educate departments on appropriate charging, billing, and coding issues to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Serve as a resource for special projects involving the analysis of data elements related to coding and reimbursement.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required; A.A. or specific certifications preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge in CPT and HCPCS coding, third-party billing, and reimbursement.
  • Ability to interpret and apply regulations from various State and Federal sources.
  • Ability to explain how chargemasters translate into codes for reimbursement to appropriate personnel.
  • Proficient in Excel spreadsheets and Word processing applications.
  • Ability to work independently and use good judgment in decision-making regarding chargemaster changes.
  • Must be a resource for all departments regarding charge items, services, and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of specific departmental procedures as required by supervisor.
  • One of the following certifications: CPC, CPC-H, COC, CCS, or RHIT.
  • 1-2 years of experience in healthcare coding.

Nice-to-haves

  • Business orientation and understanding of charge capture systems and processes.
  • Understanding of current facility systems and hospital operations.
  • Knowledge of hospital department charge capturing, revenue cycle services, and CMS regulations.
