About the position

As an Analyst/Sr Analyst in Revenue Management Operations Research at American Airlines, you will be an integral part of the Revenue Engineering Team within the Revenue Management group. This role is pivotal in developing and driving improvements in Revenue Management and Network Planning systems. You will be responsible for building automation forecasting and optimization engines that enhance performance and revenue across all flights in the American Airlines network. Your work will directly contribute to the efficiency and effectiveness of our operations, ensuring that we remain competitive in the airline industry. In this position, you will define and solve complex problems through quantitative analysis and analytical models. Utilizing operations research, statistics, machine learning, and forecasting techniques, you will build mathematical models and develop applications that support the business. Your participation will span model design, prototyping, development, and implementation, allowing you to leverage your skills in a practical environment. You will formulate hypotheses and design tests to support business decisions, using statistical methods to evaluate outcomes that drive positive revenue results. You will implement prototype solutions using programming languages such as Python and statistical tools like R, while also providing valuable business insights. A solid understanding of core airline economics will be essential, positioning you for potential advancement within the company. Collaboration with various commercial groups will be key as you creatively solve business problems, understanding processes and economics to identify and implement solutions that enhance revenue performance. Additionally, you will be responsible for delivering professional presentations and communications on complex topics to diverse audiences, ensuring clarity and understanding across the board. Partnering with Information Technology will also be a crucial aspect of your role, as you work to implement prototype solutions and improve existing systems.

Responsibilities

  • Formulate hypotheses and design tests to support business decisions.
  • Leverage statistics to evaluate tests that will drive positive revenue decisions.
  • Implement prototype solutions using programming languages such as Python and statistical tools like R.
  • Develop a solid understanding of core airline economics for potential advancement.
  • Work within revenue management and various commercial groups to creatively solve business problems.
  • Deliver professional presentations and communications around complex topics to varied audiences.
  • Partner with Information Technology to implement prototype solutions and improve systems.

Requirements

  • Master's/PhD degree or Bachelor's degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g., Computer Science, Data Science, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Operations Research, Engineering, etc.).
  • Experience working with a minimum of one programming language like Python, R, Java, or other relevant programming languages.
  • Knowledge in at least one of these skilled areas: machine learning, optimization, simulation, statistics.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's/PhD in Computer Science, Data Science, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Operations Research, Engineering or related field.
  • Experience solving large-scale problems and familiarity with the airline industry.
