About the position

The Strategic Vendor Management Analyst at Petco plays a crucial role in enhancing the company's vendor relationships and overall business performance. This position involves analyzing market trends, vendor economics, and productivities to develop actionable insights that drive bottom-line results. The analyst will support Merchants in managing strategic vendor relationships, ensuring compliance with negotiated terms, and preparing for negotiations. This role is integral to establishing a robust vendor management framework that maximizes value and minimizes risk.

Responsibilities

  • Gather, analyze, and interpret data to develop insights into actionable guiding principles and negotiation levers.
  • Work alongside cross-functional business partners to build a holistic evaluation of vendors.
  • Develop and synthesize Merchandise and vendor scorecards, tracking performance and drawing insights for actionable recommendations.
  • Create analytical materials for internal category reviews and assortment discussions, including scorecards and negotiation tactics.
  • Identify sales, cost, and margin opportunities through rigorous analysis and research.
  • Work on special projects and ad hoc analysis related to assortment performance and cost management.
  • Partner with Product and IT to enhance documentation and audit processes for vendor agreements.
  • Create and maintain dashboards and reports to track progress against strategic goals.
  • Prepare presentations and reports summarizing findings and recommendations for stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with project teams to monitor timelines, deliverables, and outcomes.
  • Facilitate workshops and meetings to gather insights from cross-functional teams.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and operational efficiencies.
  • Support the implementation of change management strategies for new processes.
  • Track progress against established goals and report on vendor performance metrics.
  • Provide excellent customer service to the Merchandising organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • 1-2 years of experience in Strategic Vendor Management or a directly related role.
  • Experience in management consulting or retail/CPG is preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Project management skills with the ability to multi-task.
  • Understanding of retail merchandising basics and vendor management processes.
