About the position

The Analyst - Timekeeping and Compensation position at Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools (MNPS) plays a crucial role in ensuring accurate payroll processing and employee compensation. This position is responsible for completing assigned pre and post audits during each bi-weekly payroll cycle, making necessary corrections or adjustments to ensure that employees are compensated correctly. The analyst will handle timesheet and payroll documentation for various supplemental pay categories, perform calculations for retroactive pay, and assist in creating training content for timekeepers. Additionally, the analyst will provide support in developing employee understanding documents and updating work schedule calendars and toolkits for timekeepers. In this role, the analyst will audit assigned employee data prior to the finalization of each payroll, identifying and rectifying any discrepancies to prevent over or underpayment. Acting as a liaison with the Employee Resource Center, the analyst will ensure that any employee data errors are reconciled effectively. The position also involves completing supplemental pay timesheets for various roles, performing complex calculations for retroactive payments, and assisting in the creation of training materials for new timekeepers. The analyst will also help in updating annual work schedule calendars and toolkits for stipends and supplements, ensuring that employees understand their compensation and the processes involved. Overall, this position is integral to maintaining the integrity of the payroll system and ensuring that all employees are compensated fairly and accurately. The analyst will engage in medium to high-level compensation audit work and provide training assistance to district staff as necessary, contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the payroll process within MNPS.

Responsibilities

  • Audit assigned employee data prior to finalization/submission of each bi-weekly payroll.
  • Identify, request, or make necessary changes to ensure employees are compensated at the correct rate/hours.
  • Act as a liaison with the Employee Resource Center to reconcile employee data errors.
  • Complete assigned supplemental pay timesheets for each bi-weekly pay period.
  • Perform complex calculations for retroactive pay or other lump sum payments.
  • Assist in creating training content for new timekeepers and annual timekeeper training.
  • Provide information for creation and updating of employee understanding documents.
  • Assist in creating and updating annual work schedule calendars and pay schedules.
  • Assist in creating and updating toolkits for timekeepers for stipends and supplements.
  • Assist employees in understanding their compensation.
  • Perform other medium to high level compensation audit work or training assistance as necessary.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Accounting, Human Resources or related field (Preferred)
  • 1-3 years of experience working in payroll or accounting for a large organization using enterprise software (e.g., Kronos, Oracle, ADP) (Preferred)
  • Medium to high level skill in Excel
  • Aptitude for medium-level mathematical computation
  • Ability to create materials and information that helps employees understand complex calculations.
