About the position

The Analyst position within the Department of Innovation and Technology is a full-time role focused on enhancing government operations and improving the quality of life in Boston through data analysis and visualization. The Analyst will work closely with the Citywide Analytics Team to develop reports, dashboards, and metrics that support decision-making across various city departments. This role requires collaboration with multiple stakeholders and the ability to communicate findings effectively to executive leadership.

Responsibilities

• Leads and supports the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of ongoing reports, analyses, dashboards, and metrics for key operations and decision-making for City departments.
• Proactively builds and maintains positive and effective relationships with Departments, analyzing results and assessing performance.
• Communicates with and presents project results and findings to executive leadership.
• Collaborates with data engineers and other departments to develop data warehouses and support business intelligence reporting needs.
• Assembles, manipulates, and formats data and reports using various software applications.
• Performs related work as required.

Requirements

• A minimum of two (2) years of professional experience in business or public administration, program management, or related field with a focus on data analysis, reporting, and visualization.
• Experience with software and languages such as Python, R, SQL, ArcGIS, or Tableau.
• A bachelor's degree in business, public policy or administration, economics, computer science, or another STEM field is preferred.
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Google Apps (Docs, Sheets, and Slides).
• Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and react quickly to problems.
• Demonstrated ability to work on diverse teams and build strong relationships across functional areas.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in a government setting is preferred.
