About the position

The Analytical Chemist position at Valent U.S.A. LLC involves performing research and development of sustainable agricultural products in collaboration with other scientists. The role requires detailed observation, data analysis, and interpretation of results, contributing to project strategies and maintaining compliance with regulatory guidelines. The chemist will also prepare technical reports and investigate new methods and technologies for project advancement.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, schedule & conduct complete analyses of active ingredient content on product samples using gas chromatography or high-performance liquid chromatography.
  • Propose solutions to a variety of technical problems.
  • Serve as Study Director ensuring compliance with regulatory FIFRA Good Laboratory Practice guidelines.
  • Prepare protocols and reports with scientifically valid conclusions for submission to government agencies.
  • Prepare responses to technical issues from regulatory agencies on submitted studies.
  • Conduct standard evaluations and analyses of physical and chemical properties of formulation samples, raw materials, and packaging materials.
  • Assist in developing new methods or modifying existing methods with guidance from the supervisor.
  • Record data and calculate results, preparing data tables.
  • Evaluate results and advise supervisor of anomalies.
  • Maintain & troubleshoot gas chromatographs and high-performance liquid chromatographs, interpreting chromatograms to identify equipment malfunctions and chromatographic anomalies.
  • Prepare and calibrate reference standard solutions.
  • Conduct laboratory support functions such as calibration and troubleshooting of laboratory instruments, maintaining chemical and equipment supplies, and ensuring laboratory organization and safety.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or related field with 2-3 years of laboratory experience.
  • Experience in conducting product or residue analyses.
  • Skilled in advanced instrumental techniques such as gas chromatography and high-performance liquid chromatography.
  • Experience in streamlining analytical data collection and processing from multiple types of analytical instruments.
  • Knowledge of FIFRA Good Laboratory Practices and EPA Product Properties Test Guidelines preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience using electronic notebook and chemical inventory software is highly desirable.
