About the position

Michelin is seeking an Analytical Chemist to join our team in Greenville, South Carolina. This position plays a crucial role in the development, adaptation, and industrialization of chemical or physical measurements and methods. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality analytical results using a variety of analytical instrumentation, which is essential for supporting both research and development projects as well as manufacturing needs. The Michelin Americas Research Center (MARC) campus, where this position is located, is home to approximately 650 dedicated employees, including materials researchers, product designers, scientists, engineers, and test technicians. Together, we contribute to the design, testing, and industrialization of innovative products that solidify Michelin's reputation as one of the world's leading tire manufacturers. In this role, you will perform a broad array of primary and sophisticated analytical testing with limited supervision. This includes using analytical instrumentation such as Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA), Gas Chromatography (GC), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), and titrators, employing both wet and dry chemical methods. You will be expected to provide well-written documentation, conduct data reviews, and report findings. Additionally, you will follow current methods, develop new methods, write standard operating procedures, and conduct characterization studies to ensure method performance. Collaboration with other team members and cross-functional teams is essential to ensure that results meet project timelines and quality expectations. All activities must be performed in accordance with safety policies and requirements, including the use of appropriate protective equipment, and the ability to work in a laboratory environment is a must.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a broad array of primary and sophisticated analytical testing using various analytical instrumentation.
  • Provide well-written documentation, data review, and reporting of analytical results.
  • Follow current methods and develop new methods for analytical testing.
  • Write standard operating procedures and conduct characterization studies to ensure method performance.
  • Collaborate with team members and cross-functional teams to meet project time and quality expectations.
  • Perform all activities in accordance with safety policies and requirements, including wearing appropriate protective equipment.
  • Complete routine instrumentation maintenance, troubleshooting, and minor repairs.

Requirements

  • BS or MS in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Material Science, or a similar field.
  • For BS in Chemistry: 3-5 years of experience or for MS in Chemistry: 1-2 years of experience or co-op experience.
  • Strong analytical chemistry skills and proven experience in a laboratory setting.
  • Experience with analytical instrumentation such as DSC, TGA, GC, FTIR, and titrators using various software packages.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Capable of safely handling and disposing of chemicals.
  • Excellent use of scientific method, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
