About the position

The Analytics Data Engineer at Saint Francis Health System is responsible for querying data from multiple sources, including patient and treatment data, to design and implement scalable, optimized, and secure data pipelines. This role aims to enable actionable insights and strategies across various health system entities, ensuring data integrity and compliance with regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Advise on the availability and interpretation of electronic health records (EHR) data to support research objectives.
  • Collaborate with researchers and data scientists to develop specifications for data to be exported and analyzed.
  • Design, develop, and maintain robust pipelines to ingest, clean, transform, and annotate large volume data sets from various sources including EHR systems, utilizing SQL and R/Python.
  • Optimize pipeline performance and scalability by developing efficient SQL queries.
  • Ensure data security and compliance with relevant regulations and standards, including HIPAA and SFHS IT Data Security policy.
  • Act as the primary point of contact between research team, IT staff, and EDA Program staff to ensure accurate and timely collection of clinical data points.
  • Implement and manage processes to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency of extracted data, including routine audits and validation checks.
  • Identify and resolve technical issues related to data extraction and processing, working closely with IT and EHR system vendors.
  • Develop and generate regular reports, extracts, and dashboards to provide insights into the data extraction process, data quality, and research findings.
  • Document all data extraction processes and protocols to comply with institutional policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Facilitate the integration of EHR data with other sources to support comprehensive research analysis.
  • Stay updated with the latest developments in EHR technologies and data management practices.
  • Manage timelines, deliverables, and resources for data extraction projects, ensuring milestones are met.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Data Analytics, Data Science, Information Technology or related field.
  • Epic Cognito or Epic Caboodle Certification, including one data model certification.
  • Minimum 5 years of related experience in Epic development, Data Science/Engineering or related fields.
  • Advanced knowledge of structured query language (SQL) and data catalogs.
  • Proven knowledge of data management to understand integrity issues and facilitate their resolution.
  • Strong Microsoft 365 skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with R/Python for data processing and analysis.
  • Familiarity with EHR systems and healthcare data management.
