About the position

The Analytics Engineer position at Phillips 66 is a pivotal role within the Commercial IT team, focusing on enhancing the analytics capabilities across various business units, particularly in Global Marine and Surface Transportation Logistics. This position is designed for individuals who are passionate about leveraging advanced analytics tools and methodologies to drive business insights and decision-making. The successful candidate will work closely with business experts, architects, IT business analysts, and data analysts to translate complex data into actionable analytics solutions. This role emphasizes creativity and innovation, encouraging team members to share their talents and lead by example in a collaborative environment. As part of the Commercial IT team, the Analytics Engineer will be responsible for delivering IT projects that support the digital transformation of the business. This includes designing and developing data models, creating data visualizations, and implementing reporting functionalities that meet the needs of various stakeholders. The role requires a strong understanding of data analysis principles and the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences. The Analytics Engineer will also engage in change management and ensure data security for the solutions developed, contributing to the overall governance and standards of the organization. This position reports to the Director of IT Commercial Applications and is recognized as a technical resource within the team. The Analytics Engineer will play a crucial role in building end-to-end solutions that address high-value business needs sustainably, utilizing agile methodologies and a dev-ops pipeline to enhance operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Leverage understanding of data analysis principles and formulas to create effective, accurate, and concise models that communicate the information and meaning of a dataset.
  • Showcase data modeling and aggregation skills to generate accurate models and communicate effectively through visual representations.
  • Visualize data effectively and choose the right chart & visualization to display the key performance indicators.
  • Communicate with data engineers, analysts, clients, and executives through both verbal communication and visual representations while ensuring that everybody on the team has the same information and understanding to create a consistent and effective result.
  • Building end-to-end solutions to solve high-value business needs in a sustainable manner.
  • Create a dev-ops pipeline and experience in agile methodologies.
  • Develop, monitor, and implement governance, standards, and practices to enable P66 to have secure, sustainable, and reliable reporting and analytics.

Requirements

  • Legally authorized to work in the job posting country
  • Bachelor's degree
  • 3 or more years of IT or analytics-related experience
  • 3 or more years of experience working with cloud-based platforms in an enterprise environment
  • 2 or more years of experience in building data models on SAP modules (Finance, Sales & Distribution, and Materials Management)
  • Experience in designing and building data models leveraging Azure data platform (Azure Synapse, Databricks, Delta Lake)
  • Proficient in designing dashboards and reports in Power BI, SAP Analytics Cloud, or Tableau

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, Engineering, or relevant field
  • Experience with SQL or Python programming language
  • Strong understanding of data warehousing techniques
  • Experience in cloud data platforms like Databricks, Azure Synapse, Azure Data Factory, and Power BI
  • Cloud certifications (Power BI, Tableau, Azure Data Engineer, or SAP Analytics Cloud certification)
  • Significant and relevant Oil & Gas or technical industry experience, especially commercial and/or logistics
  • Functional knowledge in Truck, Rail, and Marine modes of transportation
  • Functional knowledge info SAP S/4 HVC HANA, preferably MM/SD related to IS-Oil, and an oil & gas industry focus
  • Strong understanding of the deals-to-dollars oil & gas business processes
  • Strong understanding of commercial spot, term, and evergreen contracts for physical oil & gas commodities
  • Functional understanding of third-party commercial system integrations into SAP S/4 HANA
  • Process mapping skills
  • Experience with pipeline, build/release, and CI/CD deployment of data pipelines (Azure DevOps, Git)
  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills to effectively communicate to both technical and non-technical audiences adjusting style to fit the target audience including multiple levels of management
