About the position

As an Analytics Engineer I at Discovery Communications, you will play a crucial role in supporting the application of big data analytics to address business questions. Your primary responsibility will be to design and build semantic layers while utilizing data science techniques to enhance self-service product analytics. You will enable access to accurate, relevant, and timely data for all stakeholders involved in product management, fostering a data-driven culture that provides a competitive edge in the market. In this position, you will combine your understanding of business technology and data to create practical solutions that drive business results. Effective communication of data analyses to stakeholders is essential, as you will partner with cross-functional teams to identify yield optimization opportunities by analyzing bid-level marketplace data. You will be responsible for building data pipelines using SQL and Python, as well as creating visual representations of data in Looker using LookML. Collaboration with data engineers will be key, as you will extract and load large streaming datasets, such as programmatic bid-level data, into Snowflake and build data transformations using SQL. Additionally, you will automate workflows using Python and ensure that data is accessible to Programmatic Ops through Looker. Educating and supporting stakeholders on the use of BI solutions will be part of your role, as you help them interpret and utilize data to develop end-to-end solutions. You will also analyze data using statistical methods to identify business problems and solutions, applying statistics for quality assurance and control. Your technical and analytical insights will be vital in validating yield optimization hypotheses before implementing comprehensive solutions. This position allows for hybrid work, permitting two days a week of remote work.

Requirements

  • At least a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Business Analytics, Data Science, or related field.
  • Two (2) years of experience as a Senior Systems Engineer, Systems Engineer, or related role, or four (4) years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience in building data pipelines using SQL and Python.
  • Experience in building visual representations of data in Business Intelligence Tools.
  • Ability to communicate BI solutions and data analyses to business stakeholders.
  • Understanding of migrating legacy reports between BI visualization tools such as Tableau or Adobe.
  • Experience in building, managing, troubleshooting, and optimizing database ETL workflows.
