The Analytics Engineer I position at Unum involves designing, building, and maintaining data systems and pipelines to optimize data access for analytics and visualization. Responsibilities

  • Develop, construct, test, and maintain data pipelines using various languages and tools.
  • Integrate data from different sources including DB2, SQL Server, Web API, and Teradata.
  • Apply validation, aggregation, and reconciliation techniques to create a robust data framework.
  • Collaborate with data scientists and business partners to understand business problems and analytics solutions.
  • Create scalable and maintainable data assets tailored to specific problems.
  • Contribute to the evolution of enterprise data architecture and emerging data frameworks.
  • Prepare results for interpretation and visualization, communicating findings to management.
  • Support integration of solutions within existing business processes using automation techniques.
  • Provide support to lower-level Data Engineer peers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field is required; Master's degree is preferred.
  • 2 years of professional experience or equivalent relevant work experience preferred.
  • Experience in at least one object-oriented programming language (Java/Scala, Python).
  • Understanding of data architecture principles and infrastructure requirements for on-prem and Cloud platforms.
  • Ability to write complex SQL queries and troubleshoot them with minimal guidance.
  • Demonstrated communication skills and experience in financial services.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with DevOps best practices including CI/CD and process automation.
  • Basic understanding of how data builds towards business solutions.
  • Experience exploring databases to identify best data sources for business problems.
  • Ability to coach or mentor team members.
