About the position

The Analytics Engineer III at Republic Services, Inc. is a pivotal role responsible for designing, developing, maintaining, and continuously refining analytics and reporting solutions. This position plays a crucial part in the company's commitment to sustainability and operational efficiency by leveraging data to support decision-making processes. The Analytics Engineer III will be tasked with managing ETL processes, data warehouses, cubes, dashboards, and model deployment, ensuring that the data infrastructure is robust and reliable. This role requires a proactive approach to staying updated on the latest technologies and implementing proof-of-concepts to meet the evolving demands of internal customers. Additionally, the position involves developing technology roadmaps and maintaining comprehensive system and tool documentation to facilitate knowledge sharing and operational continuity. In this role, the Analytics Engineer III will lead projects, mentor junior developers, and educate users on data utilization and reporting tools. The responsibilities include designing, validating, and evaluating solutions using programming languages such as R, Python, and SQL. The engineer will also be responsible for creating pricing optimization algorithms and rules-based pricing recommendations tailored for both new and existing customers. A significant aspect of the job is to implement the architecture, tools, and processes necessary to provide a "single source of truth" for data-driven decision-making, enabling self-service capabilities for users across the organization. The Analytics Engineer III will develop and manage end-to-end project plans, ensuring timely delivery of analytics solutions. This includes writing ETL scripts using SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) or similar tools to process new data into the data warehouse, designing automated processes that utilize Excel, SQL, and VBA for data transfer, and creating dashboards that allow users to interact with data effectively. Furthermore, the role involves implementing in-database machine learning solutions using SQL Server and R/Python, contributing to the company's innovative approach to data analytics and sustainability.

Responsibilities

• Designs, validates, and evaluates solutions using R, Python, SQL, and other programming tools.
• Designs and builds pricing optimization algorithms and rules-based pricing recommendations for new and existing customers.
• Designs and implements the architecture, tools, and processes needed to provide the 'single source of truth' to support data-driven decision making and self-service.
• Develops and manages end-to-end project plans and ensures on-time delivery.
• Educates and mentors team members on data, reports, and tools.
• Writes ETL scripts using SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) or similar tools to consume and process new data into the data warehouse.
• Designs and builds automated processes that leverage Excel, SQL, and VBA to facilitate data transfer across teams.
• Designs dashboards and tools to allow users to consume and interact with data.
• Implements in-database machine learning solutions using SQL Server and R/Python.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned or apparent.

Requirements

• Master's degree in an analytical field (Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Management, Statistics, Engineering).
• 7 years of demonstrated experience working with relational databases in the context of developing ETL processes and implementing data and analytics solutions.
• 7 years of experience maintaining databases and tools in a production environment including query performance tuning and proactive maintenance.
• Demonstrated expertise working with formal software development methodologies.
• Demonstrated expertise developing and maintaining pricing optimization and/or operational efficiency algorithms in a cloud computing environment (e.g. AWS) and/or enterprise IT environments.
• Bachelor's Degree in an analytical field (Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Management, Statistics, Engineering).
• 7 years of experience with advanced programming in SQL and R or Python, deploying analytics models and tools in a production environment with relational databases.

Nice-to-haves

• Proficiency with relational databases and the ability to write SQL queries.
