About the position

TikTok is the leading destination for short-form mobile video, and our mission is to inspire creativity and bring joy. U.S. Data Security (USDS) is a subsidiary of TikTok in the U.S., created to enhance focus and governance on data protection policies and content assurance protocols to ensure the safety of U.S. users. The USDS team is dedicated to providing oversight and protection of the TikTok platform and U.S. user data, allowing millions of Americans to engage with TikTok for learning, creativity, and entertainment. The teams within USDS include Trust & Safety, Security & Privacy, Engineering, User & Product Ops, and Corporate Functions, all working together to fulfill this commitment. As an Analytics Engineer, you will play a crucial role in our User Operations team, which is focused on delivering a world-class experience to our users. We are seeking a self-motivated data scientist who can deepen our understanding of user experiences through feedback and interactions with our platform. Your responsibilities will include creating processes and reports that highlight insights into user engagement and feature-specific interactions. Your work will significantly influence decision-making regarding product iterations and user communication strategies. If you are excited by large data sets, have a proven track record of creating actionable narratives, and thrive in ambiguous situations, this role is tailored for you. To foster collaboration and cross-functional partnerships, our organization currently follows a hybrid work schedule, requiring employees to work in the office three days a week or as directed by their manager. We regularly review our hybrid work model, and specific requirements may change at any time.

Responsibilities

  • Be a strategic partner for TTP/USDS & Marketing Science teams: identify critical analytical problems and apply an engineering mindset to find innovative solutions with data.
  • Develop expertise in the USDS data to build and own relevant pipelines/ETLs.
  • Own data integrity, availability, transformation logic, and efficient data access to support the growing needs of the organization.
  • Identify gaps in existing data, create data product specs, and work with data warehouse teams to implement data tracking.
  • Incorporate automation wherever possible to improve data pipelines and analyses.
  • Build and maintain documentation to ensure data accessibility.
  • Be our go-to data expert and have a deep understanding of our data warehouse and data processing layers.
  • Be a primary point of contact for ad hoc data requests and reporting.

Requirements

  • 4 years of professional experience architecting and building data models that integrate complex and disparate data sources, using tools such as dbt.
  • Experience using MLOps tools to standardize, automate, and manage end-to-end machine learning projects. Familiarity with Airflow DAGs is a plus.
  • 4 years of experience working with statistical data analysis such as linear models, multivariate analysis, stochastic models, and sampling methods.
  • Experience with causal inference through experimentation (e.g., AB, AA, factorial designs) and/or leveraging observational data (e.g., contextual bandit, matching algorithms).
  • 2 years of SQL and database table design experience, able to write structured and efficient queries on large data sets, and understand the utilization of Pyspark.
  • Experience articulating and translating business questions and using statistical techniques to arrive at answers using available data.

Nice-to-haves

  • Expert in a data-oriented programming language (e.g., Python, R, Scala, etc.). Familiarity with OOP is a plus.
  • Proficient in ETL and data warehousing best practices and core statistics concepts.
  • Top-notch organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity; able to thrive with minimal oversight and process.

Benefits
