About the position

At Parafin, we are on a mission to empower small businesses by providing them with the financial services they need to thrive. As an Analytics Engineer, you will play a crucial role in organizing and activating our ecosystem of data. Your primary responsibility will be to architect business-critical datasets that are utilized across the company, ensuring that all teams have access to the same sources of truth. This position is pivotal in fostering a data-driven culture within Parafin, where trustworthy and complete data is readily available to everyone. In this role, you will interface between data engineering and end users, working to improve our data tooling and development velocity. You will define and enforce best practices in data management, including data modeling, testing, version control, and cataloging. Your efforts will lead to the creation of efficient, modular, flexible, and reliable datasets that unlock insights for stakeholders across the business, whether for analytics, machine learning, or operational purposes. Additionally, you will be tasked with identifying gaps in our current data collection methods and collaborating with engineering teams to ensure we are accurately measuring key metrics related to our customers and products. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the foundational aspects of how data is utilized at Parafin, and to work closely with a small, dedicated team that is passionate about helping small businesses succeed.

Responsibilities

  • Foster a data-driven culture by ensuring easy access to trustworthy and complete data.
  • Interface between data engineering and end users to improve data tooling and development velocity.
  • Define and enforce data best practices including data modeling, testing, version control, and cataloging.
  • Build efficient, modular, flexible, and reliable datasets for analytics, machine learning, or operational purposes.
  • Identify gaps in data collection and collaborate with engineering teams to ensure accurate measurement of customer and product metrics.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience in a similar role.
  • Strong collaboration skills with data, engineering, product, and business functions.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to the quality and correctness of work.
  • Ability to manage competing and shifting priorities and organize work to accomplish multiple tasks.
  • Experience with SQL and ability to write efficient queries.
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience building and maintaining data pipelines.
  • Familiarity with modern data stack tools and technologies such as Databricks, Airflow, DBT, and Reverse ETL.
  • Experience working with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience identifying and communicating data-derived insights.
