We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Analytics Engineering Manager to lead our data analytics teams. In this role, you will manage and contribute to teams that ingest, transform, model, and aggregate data, empowering various teams across Amplify and our customers to derive insights and tell compelling stories with their data. You will collaborate with data scientists, data analysts, and data engineers to ensure the delivery of clean, accurate, and reliable models and metrics that support our products and internal business partners. As a leader, you will foster a collaborative environment, guiding your team in delivering high-quality analytics solutions. You will oversee all aspects of team management, including hiring, mentoring, and budgeting, ensuring alignment with company goals. Your responsibilities will also include project and capacity planning, working closely with cross-functional teams to allocate resources effectively and meet project deadlines. You will lead the development of data models that drive the design cycle for engaging applications, helping school administrators understand teaching and learning dynamics while respecting privacy and ensuring security. In this role, you will also be responsible for analyzing performance, troubleshooting issues, and utilizing tools such as Fivetran, Snowflake, Airflow, DBT, SQL, Python, Looker, and Tableau. You will work on various projects, including building well-tested ELT data pipelines, collaborating with sales on logistics pipeline forecasting, and aligning with finance to ensure data integrity. Your expertise will contribute to establishing industry data standards and crafting models that reflect the nuances of K-12 education.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and collaborate with data analytics teams composed of data scientists, data analysts, and data engineers.
  • Foster a collaborative environment to ensure the team delivers clean, accurate, and reliable models and metrics for stakeholders.
  • Lead a team of analytics engineers, providing guidance, mentorship, and support as a player-coach.
  • Oversee all aspects of team management, including hiring, firing, and budgeting.
  • Participate in project and capacity planning for upcoming initiatives, working closely with cross-functional teams.
  • Lead the building of data models that drive the design cycle for educational applications.
  • Ensure privacy and security while providing useful insights through tech stack choices and database design.
  • Architect data warehouse schemas and SQL transforms to help school administrators understand teaching and learning dynamics.
  • Analyze performance and troubleshoot issues using various data tools.
  • Build cohesive data marts from sources like Salesforce, Netsuite, and HubSpot.

Requirements

  • BS in Computer Science, Data Science, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of professional software development or data engineering experience.
  • Familiarity leading teams within an agile product development environment.
  • Proven examples of establishing and driving adoption of best practices in data analytics.
  • Expertise in computer, data, and analytics engineering.
  • Expertise in SQL and its use in code-based ETL frameworks, preferably dbt.
  • Expertise in ETL/ELT pipelines, analytical data modeling, aggregations, and metrics.
  • Proven ability to architect and implement efficient data models and optimize high throughput data pipelines.
  • Expertise in analytical modeling architectures, including the Kimball design.
  • Strong communication skills in writing and conversation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Fluency in a development language such as Python.
  • Familiarity with metadata management tools such as Atlan.
  • Experience building dashboards, reports, and models in business intelligence tools such as Tableau or Looker.
  • Expertise with tools such as Snowflake, AWS Storage Services, and Postgres.
  • Experience with ETL/ELT tools like Airflow, dbt, Matillion, and Fivetran.
  • Proven passion for teaching fellow engineers and non-engineers.
  • Experience in education or ed-tech.
