About the position

The Principal Cloud Architect and Engineer at UCLA Health IT is a key role within the Solutions Architecture and Engineering (SAE) group, responsible for leading the design, implementation, and management of scalable and secure cloud solutions. This position focuses on core infrastructure, networking, security, and advanced technologies such as analytics, machine learning (ML), and artificial intelligence (AI). The role requires strategic direction and leadership to define and implement the enterprise multi-cloud platform strategy, ensuring a secure and innovative computing environment tailored to the healthcare sector's unique challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement scalable, secure, and high-performing cloud solutions.
  • Lead the strategic direction for the enterprise multi-cloud platform strategy.
  • Manage core infrastructure, networking, firewall, and security solutions.
  • Oversee the integration of analytics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence into cloud solutions.
  • Provide leadership and vision to solve technical challenges in healthcare.
  • Collaborate with teams to ensure compliance with security and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct outreach and training on security architecture for infrastructure and development groups.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or IT with relevant experience.
  • 15+ years of enterprise technology experience in architecture and leadership roles.
  • 10+ years of experience in designing, implementing, and managing enterprise infrastructure and data management.
  • 7+ years of experience in security architecture and mitigating cybersecurity threats.
  • 7+ years of experience in a healthcare provider organization, with at least 5 years in an Academic Medical Center.
  • 5+ years of experience in software architecture and development using the Microsoft .Net platform.
  • Hands-on experience leading significant enterprise cloud deployments in Azure and AWS.
  • AWS/Azure Certified Cloud Engineer, Architect, and Administrator certifications.

Nice-to-haves

  • Working knowledge of DevOps principles and practices.
  • Experience with automation tools like Terraform, Chef, Puppet, Jenkins, Azure DevOps, or AWS CloudFormation.
  • Familiarity with containerization technologies like Docker and orchestration tools like Kubernetes.
  • Solid foundation in data analytics, ML, and AI principles.
